Vel Tye is proud to be an American company, based in one of the military capitals of the country, Virginia Beach, VA. At our production facility, we produce quality tactical gear for law enforcement, military members, first responders, and individuals, and we’re excited to take you on a tour of our operation.
Upon entering the production facility, you’ll immediately notice a hive of bustling activity. A variety of different-sized sewing machines are set up on the main production floor. From single-needle machines (used for regular line sewing) to double-needle machines (for building belts and tourniquet straps), we’re ready for any order. In addition to the state-of-the-art sewing equipment you’ll see here at Vel Tye, you’ll also notice our high-tech programmable tackers that help us reinforce materials and stitch lines. We make all of our products durable and dependable.
At the front of our plant, you’ll also meet our cleaning and quality control team. These teams are responsible for upholding the stringent workplace standards we live by here at Vel Tye. They work hard to ensure every product is clean, ready-to-own, and meets our high QC standards. The team also helps pack and ship out orders, as well as organize tracking information to send on to our customers.
In the back of the Vel Tye plant you’ll find our Eastman table cutter and THOR laser cutting systems. We use the Eastman to cut a wide variety of patterns, shapes, and designs into equipment through specifications we load into its CAD-based system. The Eastman tool can cut multiple runs of the same material and pattern at one time, allowing us to reduce lead times and increase production output over our competitors. This system can cut anything from Airimid soft armor materials to heavy foams, plastics, and kydex. The THOR laser cutter is also a CAD-based cutting system, and we use it to cut more complex designs and patterns along with heavier materials. Our favorite way to use the THOR is to laser-etch materials for marking and identification.
The final section of the plant houses our Body Armor Design and Development systems. This is where we work on R&D for all our trademark designs along with exploring new products for use in our arsenal. Our Dukane sonic welder is housed in this area, and it’s one of the most unique tools in the plant. The welder is a cutting-edge piece of equipment designed to bond certain materials at a molecular level through the power of heat. This machine is key for insuring our body armor applications are both sealed and waterproof, and that they are strong for life.
There you have it! We hope you’ve enjoyed your tour of one of the leading tactical gear production facilities on the East Coast. At Vel Tye, we take a lot of pride in what we do here, and we’re so happy you stopped by.
